It is classified as a selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, which prevents the breakdown of cGMP, a substance that relaxes smooth muscle cells in the penis, allowing for the increase of cGMP levels in the corpus cavernosum. Additionally, Norvasc has a broad range of other effects, including vasodilation, antihypertensive effects, and muscle relaxation. The recommended dosage is typically 10 mg to 40 mg per day. It is also available as an oral tablet, and the tablet form is typically taken once daily.
Norvasc belongs to the class of drugs known as PDE5 inhibitors, which work by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). The effects of Norvasc may be due to its unique mechanism of action, which increases the cGMP levels, which is necessary for smooth muscle relaxation and erectile function.

Norvasc is a generic version of the brand-name drug amlodipine, which is a calcium channel blocker. It works by blocking calcium channels in the heart muscle, which makes it easier for blood to flow more easily into the arteries. This helps to lower blood pressure and may improve exercise capacity.
Norvasc is available in tablet form and in the form of an immediate-release capsule. It is usually taken once a day with or without food. If you have trouble swallowing, you may be able to use a liquid form of the medication. This medication can be taken by mouth with or without food.
Norvasc is available in various strengths, including 5mg and 10mg tablets. The maximum recommended dose is 20 mg. The typical recommended dose is 20 mg, taken once a day. Do not exceed this dose.
Amlodipine is not recommended for people with a history of heart failure or other risk factors for angina.
